Now that Heath Streak is truly gone

Heath Streak, a former captain of Zimbabwe, passed away. In a Facebook post, his wife Nadine Strick announced the news. Dennis, Heath Streak’s father, also told the Zimbabwean Newspaper Herald that his son had passed away.

On August 23, a source who used to play cricket for Zimbabwe, Henry Olonga, tweeted about Heath Streak’s passing. Later, Heath confirmed that he was still alive and well. Despite having cancer, the former cricketer survived but was in severe condition.

‘Early this morning, Sunday, September 3, 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my precious children was taken by angels from his house where he wished to spend his final days surrounded by family and loved ones,’ Nadine wrote in a Facebook post. Given our love and peace, he did not travel alone. Streak is forever a part of our hearts.” With a broken-heart emoji and the words “Until I see you,” Nadine concluded the post.

The streak lasted for 49 years. The pacer who amassed 100 wickets in Test cricket was revealed to be Zimbabwe’s first and only bowler to battle cancer last May. For two years, from 2014 to 2016, Streak also coached the bowling for the Bangladesh national cricket team.

From 2000 to 2004, Streak, one of Zimbabwe’s greatest cricketers, served as the nation’s captain. International cricket was last played in 2005 after 65 Tests and 189 ODIs. He has 239 ODI and 216 Test wickets. A run of 1990 runs in Tests has been scored with the bat, and 2943 runs in ODIs.

2014 saw the appointment of this former fast bowling all-rounder as Bangladesh’s bowling coach. He transitioned from playing to coaching after resigning. Streak’s coaching career also includes stints with the Gujarat Lions, Scotland, Zimbabwe, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Streak had a successful international career, but he departed the world with a bad reputation. In 2021, Streak was given an eight-year ban for breaking multiple ICC anti-corruption rules. He apologized for breaking the rules, but he insisted that he had never engaged in match rigging.

He went above and beyond this point to earn praise or censure.
